Praise for "The Heretic of the North"

Thanks to all my fans!

Timothy Brommer

Brommer has created an enjoyable novel with credible characters. The scenes are described beautifully and fully and the characters are well-developed. In the end, the reader realizes that the battles over religion and territory are all too common in the "real" world and will be able to relate quite well.

"Heretic" is one of the best first novels I've read from a small press in a long time...I'm looking forward to the
next volume.

The Heretic of the North is a sweeping epic in the tradition of Lord of the Rings plus possessing a political sophistication worthy of Machiavelli.  Powerful dynasties, mercantile interests, and noble families compete against bloodthirsty primitives, ruthless clerics worthy of Richelieu and an evil cabal of mysterious sorcerers as issues of royal succession, heretical magic and historically innovative tactics create a rich backdrop against which a plethora of memorable characters ally, bargain or betray each other with dizzying speed.  It is a complex tale that leaves the reader wanting more and feeling immersed in a world that is both different yet also familiar to any student of medieval history.

...I really loved your book. I really liked the way you
wrote the story through many different eyes and I could see how everything was unfolded. At first I thought I could predict what happened in your book, but was fooled many times and forced to read on just to see what different twists you would add. I found myself reading until 2 AM...Lord of the Rings is the only other book that's made me do that.

The first thing I look at in a fantasy book is the map...I loved the names I saw, and decided I would buy the book.  I am so glad I did!...The church leaders are still a mystery, which is a great device in that...forces the reader to not make too many decisions with the characters...one cannot know which are trustworthy and honorable!  I love that in a book--when the author forces the reader to consider each characters actions and pasts and plans for the future and realize that decisions are never as easy as they may seem, especially for leaders/heroes.
